Terms of service
Last updated July 16, 2026
Short, because fair terms don't need fine print.
The free part
Creating and downloading invoices is free and doesn’t require an account. Use it for any lawful business purpose. We may update or change the service as it evolves.
Accounts and sending
An account saves your documents and sends them by email with a hosted payment page. Keep your login to yourself and your details accurate. Sending is capped (currently 25 emails a day) because invoice spam hurts everyone; don’t send documents to people who aren’t your clients.
Online payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. To receive money you complete Stripe’s onboarding (identity and payout details go to Stripe directly), and payouts follow Stripe’s schedule. Our platform fee — 1% during the public beta, capped at $20 — plus card processing is deducted from each payment. We show the BillTo fee and an estimated US card-processing fee before you send; actual Stripe fees and the resulting payout can vary by card and account.
You are the merchant of record. The contract behind an invoice is between you and your client — BillTo isn’t a party to it and doesn’t guarantee payment. You handle refunds and disputes in your full Stripe Dashboard; see the refund policy for how fees behave.
Your documents
Your invoices are yours. We claim no rights over their contents, and you’re responsible for what they say — including tax treatment, which varies by where you do business. One honest limit: once an invoice is paid or a quote is accepted, it becomes a record of something that happened, and the numbers can no longer be edited.
The honest disclaimer
BillTo is provided as-is, without warranties. To the extent the law allows, our total liability is capped at the fees you paid us in the twelve months before a claim. We’re not liable for indirect damages or for disputes between you and your clients. Don’t use the service for anything illegal, deceptive, or abusive — we can suspend access for that, and for payment fraud we will.
Material changes to these terms get a note on this page and, for account holders, an email. Questions: hello@billto.app.
