A photography invoice carries more than a price: coverage hours, what gets delivered, and what the client may do with the images. This template is pre-filled with a wedding example that shows all three.
Twice, in effect: a retainer at booking to hold the date, and the balance shortly before delivery. For this template, note the retainer in the terms and invoice the balance with the gallery release date attached.
State it in the terms — "50% retainer due at booking; balance due before gallery delivery" — so the full package price and the payment schedule are both on the record.
It varies by state. Physical goods like prints and albums are commonly taxable; digital delivery and session fees are taxed differently from state to state. Check your state's rules and use the tax field here once you know yours.
Most photographers include a radius — often 30 to 50 miles — and bill beyond it as a line item, either a flat fee or per mile. Putting it on the invoice as its own line keeps it expected rather than disputed.
